The type of love Vladimir had for Zinadia was what we like to call in the business-- Puppy Love, but this puppy love was between a puppy and a master who like having more than one dog. The crush that every boy or man goes through is the crush of the unobtainable.

Romantic Elements in "First Love."

There are many romantic elements in "First Love," many of which portrayed from the characters and their wants. There is a constant strive for knowledge in the story from Vladimir; he is trying to mature his soul faster than the natural world will allow him, and Zinadia is manipulating her power of the "natural" instinct of the opposite sex. The style that Turgenev used in the story was very romantic-- the style of his writing was very bright and lush with detail, using subtle symbolism and brutish characterization.
